"Heart, mind & spirit available (body as bonus !) " |
Well, I am a counsellor/therapist, separated, living on a lovely houseboat on the Thames. My two daughters (12 & 17) are with me half-time so I oscillate between a week of blissful chaos followed by a week of blissful calm. I like going out for sushi and I have been around the world a couple of times but to be honest I'm as interested in inner journeys as outer ones. Sometimes what you are searching for is right there inside you. That's why I choose scuba diving over mountaineering - oh I like peak experiences, the paragliding off the mountain last year was a huge rush, but it's much richer in the depths :-)
My current enthusiasm is Tango, I didnt realise that taking a dance class could become such a consuming experience - the music, the culture, the meeting of two people to exchange some intimate energy, it has really got to me. I love my work too - doing psychotherapy and supervision - helping people to heal themselves is a great honor and frequently humbling as well as a constant intellectual and emotional challenge. And when work is over I like to get out on my (far too expensive) silver bike around Richmond Park. I also help on large commercial firework displays - blowing things up is a fun antidote to sitting listening.
I havent dated in 20-odd years so this all feels a bit peculiar. I am happy to exchange a couple of emails to see whether we have enough in common to risk a coffee or a drink. If I have some lovely conversations that would be ok - if the chemistry is right then maybe explore each other a little more. Honesty and communication are core values for me. I love people who speak their truth regardless of the approval of others. I look for a balance of challenge and support in a partner - I want to be told when I'm wrong, and then loved for risking being wrong.
What else to say ? When I see my age written down as 48 it feels all wrong - I am not a boy but that number sounds far too middle aged. I am still expecting life to offer some serious adventures (am learning Spanish right now to help with one or two of them). I would be flattered to be approached and will answer any brave soul that writes. I also won't waste anybody's time if we are on different wavelengths. My friends say that I am very witty and scrub up well. I'll let you be the judge of the accuracy of that...
What sort of person am I looking to meet ? Well someone not like me, obviously...short, dark, slim and wickedly sparkly would get my undivided attention...

| Occupation: | | Psychotherapist |
| | Education: | | Public school, university, masters degree. Lots of personal and professional development over 20 years |
| | Heritage: | | English mongrel |
| | Religion: | | I am increasingly drawn to a universal spirituality - have explored many paths but am put off by religious dogma. |
| | Politics: | | Some conventional values, some radical beliefs. Green liberal with a wicked sense of the shadow in all that..
|
| | Appearance: | | Errr - better in the flesh than on photos apparently. |
| | Languages Spoken: | | French, I find english with a regional accent is often more likely to get the meal I intended to order...some hilarious mistakes trying to be polite in languages I havent mastered. |
| | Musical Instruments played: | | Guitar, The cliché of the 40-something posturing with an electric guitar..."I bought it for my kids"....honest ! |
| | Music Enjoyed: | | Drum'n'Bass, Reggae, Soft Rock, World Music, 70s music, I listen to a lot of music - from Nellie Lutcher to the Alabama 3. My cd wall is populated by a lot of dub and middle eastern sounds as well as a healthy love of some disco kitsch. Currently cant stop listening to Gotan Project... |
| | Sports and exercise: | | Cycling, Scuba diving, Not sporty at all but I must confess to a few sit ups and push ups to keep in trim..the 'Lympics has largely passed me by but the fencing rekindled a childhood affair with the foil...
|
| | Interests and activities: | | Alternative Medicine, Chess, Computers, Cooking, Dancing (Tango), Internet, New Age, Writing poetry, professional articles and short stories. Tend not to watch too much telly beyond Newsnight except when a series gets to me (anything fron Madmen to Deep Space 9) and then its obsessive for a season. |
| | Animals and Pets: | | Brainlessly affectionate mackerel tabby |
| | Newspapers and magazines: | | Granta, New Scientist, Big Issue, The Field, Guardian. Now I ticked 'the field' thinking of Lynne McTaggart's book but now suspect it's some Country sports hunting and fishing thing so, no, cross that out. |
| | Books: | | George Orwell, Iain Banks, Jack Kerouac, Julian Barnes, Mervyn Peake, Philip Pullman, Sebastian Faulks.
Or Martin Prechtel, or Graham Hancock. |
| | Favourite Films: | | American Beauty, Jindabyne, Apocalypse Now, Tampopo, Spirited Away,.....anything with Penelope Cruz :-) |
| | Enjoyable evening out: | | I do like going to theatrical things that I havent experienced before - and an enthusiasm for really good food often costs me more than is reasonable - however I am as happy with a dinghy or a bike along the river to a pub for a game of backgammon and a lot of giggles on the way home... |
| | Favourite Dishes: | | Free range, organic, you name it. I'd rather have a small amount of something exquisite that has been treated well and cooked with love than acres of cheap, deep fried, rich antibotic-riddled protein. A recent 'dieta' has taught me about the right place of wheat and coffee in my world. |
| | Ideal Holiday: | | Scuba diving in Thailand. But this year I am house(boat) swapping with some people in Scarborough because I've never been there and want to see what's in our backyard....
Used to do all the festivals with big camp, furniture, fires etc but increasingly looked for smaller ones until found myself with 200 close friends in a beautiful field in Somerset thinking that I had found heaven for a weekend. |
| | In another life: | | A falcon, a tree, how about a marine biologist ? Tom Waits perhaps....
|
| | Personality: | | Affectionate, Adventurous, Aware, Caring, Cheerful, Confident, Courageous, Different, Eccentric, Friendly, Generous, Humorous, Imaginative, Independent, Intellectual, Loving, Positive, Sensitive, Sensual, Thoughtful, Tolerant, Wild, Finely balanced between extrovert and introvert - as Jung meant them. |
