Alcohol warning for loved-up couples
22 October 2008
Married couples are being warned to ensure they are not drinking too much together, according to a new report.
|
While people may think it is only young singletons who binge drink, new research reveals that loved-up couples who indulge in a romantic bottle or two could be putting their health at risk.
Research from the NHS reveals that married couples are nearly twice as likely to drink alcohol daily than singletons.
One in five married couples drink five nights a week, compared to just nine per cent of single Britons.
The research has come as charity Drinkaware launches its million-pound alcohol awareness campaign.
One in three women and 40 per cent of men are drinking over the recommended amount, while one in five are drinking at seriously high levels, the Metro reports.
Chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson said: "Whether people are at home or in a bar, it's important to be aware of how much they are drinking."
