Bride and groom in different continents marry
23 November 2007
A solider based in Basra has married his girlfriend in a ceremony which took place with the couple thousands of miles apart.
The solider, Lance Bombardier Joseph Lomotey, is serving with the 1st Regiment Royal Horse artillery, based in Wiltshire
|
.
He comes from Ghana where his girlfriend was living when the ceremony took place.
And the wedding was a surprise for Lomotey, prepared by his fellow soldiers, reports Sky News.
Ghanaian law permits couples to marry if it is not physically possible for one half of the couple to attend.
Josephine Aggrey, the proud bride, was in on the surprise and made her vows at a traditional Ghanaian ceremony.
The groom said: "I was very surprised - and honoured - that the lads would do such a thing for me.
"I fully appreciate the time and effort to make this type of thing happen and was glad the troop could share one of the happiest days of my life.
"Even though it wasn't 'real,' it was very emotional for me."
The pair will be reunited as husband and wife next week.
