Britain's greenest wedding
17 September 2007
The nuptials of two climate change campaigners this weekend is thought to be Britain's most environmentally friendly wedding ever.
|
Alexia Muskett and Russell Geake wore second-hand clothes bought from charity shops, with favours for guests breaking the tradition - they were given energy saving light bulbs.
Guests were also invited using email rather than paper invitations.
The bride arrived at the church in an electric car
At the altar, the couple exchanged wooden wedding rings, made from a walnut tree which was felled to make way for a controversial new road.
All food at the reception was sourced locally, after which the couple were showered with homemade confetti.
Bride Alexa said: "We are not missing out on any par of the traditional wedding - we've just tailored it to the way we choose to live our lives.
"The less mark you can leave on the ground you walk on, the better."
