... Couple together 50 years after love at first sight Couple together 50 years after love at first sight

18 January 2008

A couple in Oxford who fell in love at first sight are celebrating after 50 years of marriage.

John and Patricia Fowler are planning to celebrate their time together by going to Cyprus with the whole family.

They met in 1956 at Middle Barton, near Bicester, and went on to have four sons who have given them six grandchildren.

Mrs Fowler told the Oxford Mail: "It was love at first sight for me. We lived in a house opposite the village pub. I used to see John walking to the pub. We got chatting and we have been together ever since."

"We decided the nicest way to celebrate would be for everyone to be together and that's why we're paying for everyone to go on holiday together."

It is thought that the longest recorded marriage to date is 83.5 years held by a couple in Slough, Berkshire.
