Gay men, straight women 'have similar brains'
18 June 2008
The section of the brain responsible for emotion is similar among gay men and straight women, according to a new study.

A study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that brain symmetry was also shared among lesbians and straight men.
According to the study, lesbians and straight men had asymmetric brains, while straight women and gay men did not.
The research, which involved looking at brain scans of men and women, did not determine whether the similarities were down to nature or nurture.
Authors of the study conducted at Karolinska Institute in Sweden said: "The observations cannot be easily attributed to perception or behaviour.
"Whether they may relate to processes laid down during the fetal or postnatal development is an open question."
The researchers said more "extensive investigations" need to be done to better understand the "neurobiology of homosexuality".
