Hapless Romeo watches dream proposal blow away
17 March 2008
A would-be Romeo who had planned a novel way of proposing to his girlfriend ended up seeing his best-laid plans carried away with the wind.
|
Lefkos Hajji from London had bought his girlfriend a stunning £6,000 diamond ring and thought he would put it in a helium balloon for a romantic proposal.
But as he left the balloon shop, a sudden gust of wind ripped the balloon from his hands – and the glittering rock with it, the Sun reports.
The 28-year-old chased the balloon for two hours in his car, but with no luck.
He told the newspaper: "I couldn't believe it. I just watched as it went further and further into the air.
"I felt like such a plonker. It cost a fortune and I knew my girlfriend would kill me."
And it seems that love just wasn't enough, with the floor fitter revealing that his girlfriend went "absolutely mad" when he told her.
He said: "Now she's refusing to speak to me until I get her a new ring."
