... Higher-pitched voices during fertile periods make Higher-pitched voices during fertile periods make

Men are more attracted to women during their most fertile periods when they speak in a higher pitch, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of California revealed that women speak in a higher tone during the most fertile part of their cycles and this makes them more attractive to the opposite sex.

The study was carried out by taking voice recordings of 69 female undergraduates at different parts of their monthly cycle.

Nearer ovulation they had more feminine qualities and less so during low fertility stages.

Men seem to be able to pick up on these signals and find women more attractive at their most fertile stages.

Previous studies have showed that lap dancers in America got more money in tips when they are most fertile, the Daily Mail reports.

Men also pick up on subtle changes in behaviour, voice and appearance at different parts of the month and the latest research on voice changes adds to that.

Greg Bryant, who led the research, said: "It is feasible these changes in vocal femininity occur primarily or exclusively during social communicative tasks - raising the intriguing possibility cues of ovulation appear more during social interactions and could serve a communicative function."
