In love and war
15 September 2008
It is one of the romantic love stories there could be. A British nurse is set to marry the soldier love she helped to save from near death.
|
Lance Corporal Jonathan Lee, 25, lost his leg while fighting in Afghanistan where he was blown up by a Taliban landmine in the Helmand province.
Nurse Poppy Morris, 20, was part of the team who helped save the soldier as he battled for survival for a few weeks at the Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham, the Mirror reports.
Lance Corporal Lee said: "We love each other and want to spend the rest of our lives together.
"Losing my leg was devastating but if it hadn't happened, I'd never have met Poppy."
Although no move was made while he was in hospital, the soldier tracked his very own Florence Nightingale down on a social networking site after being discharged and the romance blossomed from there.
Poppy told the paper: "We've been together for six months and I know we'll get married one day. I worry he'll go back to Afghanistan, but I'm proud of him."
