... Love letters straight from the heart Love letters straight from the heart

8 January 2009

With the advent of email and SMS, traditional written love letters are fast becoming a thing of the past, but not for one man who is on a mission to restore the lost art and make people smile.

The Times reported on the unusual tale of Jake Bronstein, a 30-year-old New Yorker that plans to send 1,000 strangers love letters, just to make them happy.

He told the paper that he came up with the original idea when he watched a clip about a man who had given out free hugs to make people "feel good".

Mr Bronstein explained: "There was this study I read which said that when you do a good deed for someone not only do your endorphin levels rise, but so do theirs, and anybody who sees it also has that same chemical reaction."

He subsequently came up with the idea of asking people to send him their address via his blog in return for a love letter.

It seems that people are very receptive to the idea as Mr Bronstein has already received 800 addresses after posting the request in November.
