Loved-up Brits underestimate wedding costs

Brits who are planning their upcoming nuptials have good weather at the top of their wish-list, according to a new survey.

Some 76 per cent of respondents to a survey by Alliance & Leicester said they hoped the sun would shine down on them as they tied the knot.
However, British weather being such that it is means that couples are often taking a gamble when they pick their wedding day.
Commenting on the study, Richard Al-Dabbagh, head of personal loans at Alliance & Leicester, said: "Money can't buy you everything for the perfect wedding, with the weather being unpredictable at best. This was best illustrated in the recent Rooney wedding, where even a total spend of £5 million on their Italian nuptials could not stop the day being a wash-out.
"Most Brits can only dream of a budget like Wayne and Coleen's, so it is unsurprising that we have lower expectations of what a wedding will cost. Even so it appears that the actual cost of the Big Day is greatly underestimated, and it is essential to assess finances when budgeting for your special day."
The survey showed that loved-up couples can often vastly underestimate the cost of their wedding.
They say their wedding must-haves include a stunning venue, beautiful flowers and a vintage car for transport.
But the study showed that the average cost of a picturesque venue is £2,200, while flowers alone will set you back £559.
Around 29 per cent of brides-to-be said they wanted a handsome groom to meet them at the end of the aisle – and luckily that is priceless.
But when it comes to adding to the cost, ladies' wedding dresses are sure to boost the bill, coming in at an average of £1,310.
