The Great Male Survey by website AskMen.com has helped to dispel a number of myths about the male psyche.
More than 70,000 men took part in the survey, answering questions on lifestyle, dating, sexuality, power and money.
It discovered that 77 per cent of men are looking for a girlfriend they think they could marry and the majority of them said that being a good father and a husband are what makes a man 'manly'.
Some 69 per cent of male respondents said they would never cheat on their partner, showing that men are more loyal and have a higher sense of family and values than we might think.
James Bassil, editor-in-chief at AskMen.com, said: "These survey results will be surprising to many women, most of whom have a completely different perspective of what the average man thinks and feels.
"AskMen.com has been exploring the male persona for the past ten years and we know it well."
