Men forking out for romantic breaks
31 October 2008
Men are getting the raw end of the deal when going on their first romantic breaks with their other halves, according to a new survey.
|
A survey by a hotels website found that 84 per cent of women expect the man in their life to foot the entire bill for the holiday.
Meanwhile 73 per cent expect their other half to also plan when and where they go, the survey by hotels.com revealed.
The study of more than 1,000 men and women revealed the average man is expected to fork out £351 for a romantic break.
But women are spending nearly that amount on buying underwear, make-up and new outfits for their time away.
Women were worried about things like running out of what to say to their date during a holiday, while one in five were worried about their partner seeing them first thing in the morning.
Relationship expert Kate Taylor said: "You could say the first mini-break is the make or break of a new relationship. It's often the first time you'll have spent 48 hours in each other's company - seeing each other first thing in the morning and compromising on what side of the bed you sleep on at night - so it's not surprising that women want things to be perfect.
"Women love to be involved in planning the trip, as it helps them prepare the most stunning outfits and boast about the momentous occasion to all their friends. For women, a lot of the fun is in the anticipation and planning the extra little details."
