Mobile phone addiction on dates 'a turn off'
23 October 2008
Mobile phones are beating men in the fight for a woman's attention on a date, according to a new study.
|
Disgruntled guys are annoyed that their date pays more attention to their mobile phones than their romantic partner on a first date.
According to single men, this is one of the most sure-fire ways to ensure the woman is not invited out on a second date.
The poll of 541 singletons by YouGov on behalf of Craiglist found that 21 per cent of male respondents said mobile phone attachment is "the most off-putting kind of behaviour" in a woman.
Women do not seem to mind the habit as much, with just five per cent citing it as a romance stealer.
Commenting, Andrew Marshall, a relationship therapist, said: "Men feel a great need to perform on a date.
"On a date, it's as if the man's the performer and the woman's the audience. And when you go to a play or film these days, what the audience is always told is: 'switch off your mobiles'."
