... Most mums 'feel guilty about working' Most mums 'feel guilty about working'

18 July 2008

The majority of career women who are also mothers would rather just quit work and look after their families, according to new research.

A study by ukfamily.co.uk – Disney's new parenting website – found that 62 per cent of working mums would rather be at home looking after their young children than in the workplace.

Some 80 per cent of survey respondents said they were "worn out" by having to juggle home life and work life, while 68 per cent said they felt "emotionally drained" or "exhausted".

But mothers are particularly suffering from the pressures of having to be Super Woman in the workplace and Super Mum at home.

Dani Zur, of the website, said that Motherhood has never been as hard as it is for women today because there simply is not enough time in the day to carry out all tasks.

Suzy Greaves, the website's life coach, added: "We feel guilty about everything - the amount of time we spend at work, the lack of time we have to play with our children and the amount of time our kids spend in childcare."
