... Newlyweds unhappy with wedding gifts Newlyweds unhappy with wedding gifts

5 September 2008

While they might love each other, newlyweds hate the presents their friends and family buy them, according to a new study.

It can often be hard to buy presents for people who are getting married, but the survey showed wedding guests should stay away from purchasing bath robes, salt and pepper pots, photo frames, plates and candlesticks.

These presents were picked as the five most hated items bought for newly-married couples, according to a survey by the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland.

Some 68 per cent of respondents said they hated their presents, while 72 per cent said they wished guests had spent the money on vouchers or just given them cash.

A spokesman for Bridges said: "We were shocked to find so many unhappy couples surveyed on what should be a happy occasion."

In recent years, an increasing number of couples have organised wedding lists where guests can buy presents the bride and groom actually want.
