No more no-strings holiday romances
24 October 2008
No-strings holiday flings are being ruined by social networking sites such as Facebook, according to new research.
|
A new study reveals that where holiday couples used to return home without any attachment to their pool-side love, those partners are now looking them up in websites once they get back to the UK.
And when these men or women get in touch once they are back in Britain, it could seriously harm the person's long-term relationships.
Figures from travelsupermarket.com show that one fifth of those who have had a holiday fling in the summer have been contacted by their lover through a social networking site long after the lust has faded.
And with one in ten of the under-20s indulging in these holiday romances, the chances of ruining their real-life love is increased.
Now, holidaying Brits said they are more likely to give a false name to someone they meet abroad to ensure they do not track them down back at home.
Bob Atkinson, travel expert at travelsupermarket.com, said: "There was a time when we'd fly away for two weeks, meet all sorts of people, let our hair down, and then return home never to hear from them again.
"But it seems that thanks to Facebook and other social networking sites, what happens on holiday no longer stays on holiday."
