... Online daters 'get on better in real life' Online daters 'get on better in real life'

People who have chatted online before going on their first date are more likely to get on with each other, according to new research.

A study conducted at Harvard University found that singletons looking to be successful in the dating game should talk online first because it helps give them realistic expectations when they do meet someone for the first time.

Dr Igor Kotlyar of the study said: "Realistic expectations are key to online dating success."

The researchers found that much like the mental preparation made by sports stars such as Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, it is important for people to prepare themselves in the dating game.

The study said: "You are who you are in that moment. And frankly, people like you better when they do meet you."
