Over-50s take to online dating and socialising

An increasing number of over-50s use the internet to help their love life, according to new research.

It seems that the older generations are taking to the world wide web as much as their younger counterparts.
Around one in five over-50s use the internet for social networking and dating sites in order to flirt and make friends.
But silver surfers are also using the internet to carry out other every day takes, with 58 per cent using the net to manage their finances.
A further 41 per cent book holidays online to save time and make it easier, according to the survey by Alliance & Leicester.
Emma Walkley, current account manager at Alliance & Leicester said: "Many of the over 50s now choose to engage in the social side of the internet and also have the confidence to organise many aspects of their life online. With this in mind it is encouraging to see that they are so vigilant and conscious of the need for online security."
