... Overseas nuptials increasingly popular Overseas nuptials increasingly popular

19 December 2008

The impact of the ensuing global financial crisis is being felt by the majority of the UK's population and as a consequence belts are being tightened.

However, that doesn't mean to say that people can no longer enjoy themselves - they just have to be a bit more cautious about how much things cost.

A wedding is typically extremely expensive and many couples might consider holding off their nuptials until such time as dresses, flowers, cakes and venues become more affordable.

However, according to one holiday firm a number of couples are choosing to get married abroad to try and save themselves money instead.

Planet Holidays has asserted that a growing number of people are tying the knot in other countries because they believe that they are getting a better deal.

The company specialises in wedding programmes for destinations such as Greece, Gozo and Mauritius, the Huddersfield Daily Examiner reports.

Speaking to the local newspaper, managing director Mathilde Robert Ms Robert noted that couples could spend around £1,200 to £1,500 for a service, flowers, photographs and reception in Cyrpus.

However, she explained that some couples who choose to have a civil wedding in Cyprus could pay a fee of just £200 for a "special licence".

Ms Robert commented: "Greece and Cyprus have become our top destinations because many people planning special occasions are convinced they get better value overseas than they find in the UK."

According to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, Planet Holidays believe that more people became interested in tying the knot abroad after footballer Wayne Rooney wed his fiancée Colleen McLoughlin in Italy.

Luckily, you don't have to have the celeb couple's vast wealth to enjoy a really special wedding day in another country.ADNFCR-1016-ID-18938390-ADNFCR
