Politician calls for marriage time limit

As many people take marriage less seriously and see it less as a life-long commitment, Germans may be offered a get-out clause if a politician gets her way.

The CDU/CSU party member's policy would see marriages end after seven years.
Gabriele Pauli justifies her idea as a great way to save money on divorce costs and would also encourage couples to try harder to make a go of their relationship up to the seven-year cut-off point.
Couples who successfully last the term would be able to apply for their marriage to be extended.
Her somewhat liberal attitude is added to by the fact that she once posed for a German magazine dressed as a dominatrix.
Unsurprisingly, many members of her party have ridiculed her proposal, describing it as "irresponsible and stupid blather", reports Ananova.
A spokesman said: "A marriage limited in time is a contradiction in itself, because no one gets married to separate again later."
