... Romance up as credit crunch bites Romance up as credit crunch bites

19 November 2008

The financial climate may be gloomy, but British bedrooms are sizzling as the credit crunch bites, according to new research.

A study by online grocer Ocado reveals a 60 per cent rise in the number of condoms being bought, while pregnancy test kits are up 100 per cent.

It seems that an increasing number of Britons are cooking romantic foods believed to be aphrodisiacs, with sales of asparagus up 25 per cent, while chocolate sales soared by 56 per cent.

Red meats believed to enhance the libido were up 50 per cent, according to the survey.

The study shows that Britons are also washing down these romantic meals with wines and champagnes, despite the financial crisis.

It seems that in times of financial or economic crisis, Britons are turning to the one thing that is constant in their lives – the love of their partners.

Spending time together is also making themselves feel better and proving love doesn't cost a thing.
