... Romantic breaks help couples' love lives Romantic breaks help couples' love lives

1 August 2008

A significant number of British couples are going on holiday to improve intimacy with each other, according to a new survey.

Sex was cited as a reason 38 per cent of men and women went abroad to spend time with each other
.

Around 44 per cent of these respondents aged between 25 and 34 said they believed going away for a weekend's break with their other half would help to improve the relationship.

The survey, which forms part of the Campaign for the Real Weekend, was launched by purplehotels.

Donna Dawson, psychologist and sex expert, said: "A complete change of scenery appears to be the remedy for 'revving up' our jaded or non-existent sex lives, by injecting novelty, adventure and much-needed privacy into the proceedings.

"'Quality time' together in a new setting seems to lead to 'higher-quality sex', and is just what the sex therapist would order."

Getting away from it all with someone that loves you also helps to raise self-esteem and make people feel better about themselves, the survey found.

Some 45 per cent of female and 39 per cent of male loved-up holidaymakers felt more able to cope with life after coming back from a romantic break.

However, 37 per cent of respondents had enjoyed their time away so much that they just wanted to go for another break.

Some 41 per cent of them added that they felt better for a few days after returning from their break, while 20 per cent said they felt great for at least a week.

One in three men said they would choose a hotel based on how good the breakfast is for the morning after.

Ms Dawson explained: "'Weekend breaks' allow us to return to work and the daily grind in a better frame of mind - and for some of us, there is a longer-lasting benefit through a more positive change in our general outlook and attitudes."

British couples do not have to head to sunnier climes to get a romantic break. T
