... Single women 'start saving early' for weddings Single women 'start saving early' for weddings

11 June 2008

Every little girl dreams of having her fairy tale wedding and British women are so determined to have their big day that they start planning early – whether they have found their Mr Right or not.

According to figures from Norwich Union, a fifth of single women living in Britain have already started to put money away for their weddings despite not having found a man.

British women are thinking big when it comes to their nuptials, with 85 per cent revealing that they are hoping to emulate a top celebrity wedding.

But gone are the days when the father of the groom would foot the bill, as 93 per cent of brides-perhaps-to-be said their family would not be funding their wedding.

What was most important – and probably most expensive – was the designer wedding dress, with 46 per cent saying they wanted one for their big day.

Around 27 per cent said they would be enlisting the services of a professional wedding planner to help ensure the wedding goes smoothly when it eventually takes place.

Commenting on the study, celebrity wedding planner Zoe Lingard, said: "Girls today know exactly what they want, down to the last detail, and have usually pored over magazine spreads, of the Wags' weddings in particular, so I'm not surprised that saving starts early."
