WLTM a man just like dad
4 September 2008
It's official: men marry their mums while women go for men who look like their dads, according to a new study.
|
Researchers at the University of Pecs in Hungary found that – in what is known as sexual imprinting – ladies use their fathers as a template when looking for a life partner.
A dad is the first man in a woman's life and often influences the good qualities she looks for in a potential beau.
The researchers found that the search for a daddy-like hubby is not just driven by genes but down to experience as well.
However, other research also showed that women who had bad relationships with their fathers looked for men who were different to them.
Commenting, Tamas Bereczkei, lead researcher, said: "Our results support the sexual imprinting hypothesis which states that children shape a mental template of their opposite-sex parents and search for a partner who resembles that perceptual schema."
The study found that physical characteristics of both men and women were similar to those of their fathers and mothers-in law.
