... Women 'love shopping' more than men love sex Women 'love shopping' more than men love sex

12 June 2008

The average British woman is as obsessed with shopping as men are with sex, according to new research.

A survey undertaken for Cosmopolitan magazine found that women aged between 19 and 45 think about retail therapy once every minute.

This is compared to the once every 52 seconds that men daydream about sex, according to the study.

The popularity of hit film Sex & the City is testament to the fact that women love the fabulous world of shopping, clothes and looking good.

Some love it so much that they would rather head down to the shops than spend time with their partner.

With the credit crunch taking its toll, it seems even that will not stop women from spending, with 62 per cent of respondents saying they were ready to slap payments on their credit cards in order to have that fancy bag, gorgeous pair of shoes or killer outfit.

The University of Glamorgan's Dr Jane Prince, a psychologist, said: "So many women displaying this level of preoccupation would indicate widespread addictive behaviour."
